Product Description
The Meramac series tents are all free standing 2-pole designs with shock corded fiberglass poles and aluminum ferrules. The ferrules are the "connectors" that hold the poles together and we use aluminum, rather than steel, because aluminum can never rust. Our fiberglass poles are also normally one size larger than normal to offer you a sturdier, stronger tent. We use lightweight but strong polyester fabrics. The walls are uncoated so the tent can "breathe" under the urethane coated fly. The fly uses a pole in the top, which gives you an awning over each door for excellent rain protection. Our fly is full length on the sides, not 3/4 length like some others on the market, for better weather protection. We even have our factory seal the seams on the floor and fly for maximum water repellency. Entry and exit are enhanced with 2 doors, which means if you have to get out at night, you don't need to crawl over the others to get to the only door. The second door is also nice for extra ventilation in hot, muggy weather. Our door zippers are a #8, which is one size larger than most, for extra durability.

This is my second Alps Mountaineering Meramac 5 tent. I purchased the first one several years ago. The old original tent has seen many camping trips and for days on end. We've been in rain, wind, and snow storms and the tent has performed very well in deed. There have been no issues and the tent has never leaked. I eventually had to replace the tent because of a zipper problem that I caused. (and even that took a mighty burst of stupidity...ooops) Keep in mind, The Meramac 5 has a "lifetime gaurantee" and the company stands behind it but where I caused the problem, it wasn't right for me to claim that the zipper broke through normal use. The height, width and length are good for several people and a 6 foot person can stand up in the middle. The fiberglass poles are strong and the tent is easy to set up and take down. The two doors come in handy for when you or your wife/partner feel the sudden urge to go for a hike in the middle of the night, or when a bear or the tax man comes knocking on the front door, your abrupt unscheduled exit through the back door doesn't disturb your favorite wife/partner. This tent will serve you and yours well for many years.

This is an awesome tent! As was stated by a previous reviewer the quality is superb and truly above what you would expect in the price range. I like that the tent is marketed as a 5 person tent, but in reality it's a roomy 5. Some other manufacturers claim "5 person" size for their tents but it ends up being a really cramped space. We use ours a lot, and it has never failed us in every type of weather except the heaviest snows.. we don't usually camp in those conditions and would use a heavier 4 season if we did. You will not regret becoming an Alps Mountaineering customer.

Love it! Easy to set up and for $100 there's no better tent in this price range. I will give an update after field testing.
