Great tent!
By Runnikee
I purchased this tent early last summer (2010). I did A LOT of research, reading reviews, checking features, etc. This tent was a bit more than I initially wanted to spend, but it has been worth it. At first I was looking at the "throw away" tents that rarely give you more than a year of use from department stores. The main thing I wanted to make sure my tent could do was to resist leaking, and most department store tents do not do that consistently. This tent has not leaked at all, and when I say not at all, I mean not a drop. I'm not one who would be satisfied with a tent that only gets a few small drops of water in one of the corners along the seem. To me, not leaking is not leaking. There is a lot of room inside this tent. Two queen-sized mattresses and a double-sized mattress easily fit in this tent, leaving plenty of room for bags also inside the tent. Air flow through the tent is great, but reduced a little with the rain cover on (obviously). My only "complaint" about this tent is the vestibule that covers the front door could be larger. In other words, it'd be nice if there was more room inside the rain cover and outside of the tent (similar to a porch). Other than that, no issues. If the money is a concern for you, be sure to look around. I found a great deal on mine just by searching a little online.Happy camping!

Absolutely a great tent
By Russell Burns
I purchased this tent reluctantly as I normally wouldn't spend this much on a tent. Thankfully, I was very happy when I received it and I have used it several times already. Construction is top-notch and the over-all look of this tent is impressive. Set up is a breeze, takes less than 10 minutes. The tent itself is very sturdy and the poles are great. The mesh top is nice to have as it keeps the inside cool and it's also great to look up at the stars at night. One of the things I was most impressed with was the size! Pictures don't do this tent justice. Lots of room and very large. Plenty of room for a family of 5-6 people and still have room for your gear.Having said all that, there are a couple of downers...The mesh roof is great at night, so if you don't use the fly you'll love to lay and fall asleep looking up. Really makes you feel like your actually just laying on the lawn outside, but come morning, plan on rising when the sun comes up, because there's nothing blocking the sun! Using the fly also increases the footprint, so make sure you have plenty of space to set this up.If you are going to use this as a family tent and you camp in populated campsites, be aware that the front and back windows do not have privacy flaps. These windows stay open all the time, so you will need to use the fly to change inside your tent, or just stay low!The tent stakes, like everyone mentioned, are junk. Plan on buying some longer/better stakes bottom line. If not staked properly, the door has a bit of lag when zipping.Packaging is a bit heavy, so you won't be lugging this too far from your vehicle.I recommend a footprint/tarp to help protect the bottom. If you're spending this much on a tent, you'll want it to last.I am very happy and I think this tent will provide years of quality/hassle free camping experiences. Highly recommended.

High-Quality Huge Tent
By ironman96
The 8 person Kelty Parthenon tent is a well-made, roomy, 3 season tent that is ideal for a family. I wouldn't want to try to squeeze 8 into the tent--4 or 5 would be ideal. We've only used it once, but it kept us dry during a heavy rain. The rain test is one of the most important for a tent, and this one passed with flying colors. It has a "door" that allows you to divide the tent into two compartments, a skylight type of window in the top, a rain fly, and storage pockets inside for odds and ends. The only negative is that the poles attach to the tent with plastic clips that appear to be weak enough to cause an eventual failure. Overall we are happy with the purchase.
